The city of Troy, located along the west coast of Turkey, had its origins in ancient times, around the 3rd millennium BC during the Bronze Age.
The city has been built, re-built and built upon, several times, taking a new numeral for each iteration of the city's layout and government. Some cities were destroyed by earthquake or battle, and others seem to have been abandoned after capture.
On the coast of the Aegean Sea, it flourished as a mercantile trade center both from its interior and from ports along the Aegean.
