Friends coming together for the North American Ogranic Brewers Festival
Organic beer is an important step towards a sustainable future, especially in a city such as Portland where beer plays such a huge factor in our community. Oregon has been leading the charge in this endeavor with $41 million in "green" brew sold in 2009 which more than doubles 2005's sales. This all comes from USDA adopting organic standards in 2002. After their push for organic standards, the local craft brewing community was asked, "How do we keep Portland on the cutting edge of brewing?". This led to certified organic beers and within the next few years, brewers across Oregon were marketing organic versions of their favorite craft beers.
This exhibit will brush over the USDA standards for organic beers, the Organic Beer Festival and layout of all of our local breweries in Portland that produce certified organic beer. Here's a quick list of the breweries showcased:
